Vertigo-Inducing Hong Kong Selfie Will Surprise You (VIDEO)
A group of friends relaxes as they eat bananas, with Hong Kong’s skyline in the background. Nothing seems strange. However, at one point, photographer Daniel Lau uses a ‘selfie-stick’ – a pole on which the camera is mounted, and reveals the crew is on top of a building.
The Centre skyscraper is 346 meters (1,135 feet) tall and stands as Hong Kong’s fifth tallest building. In a video accompanying Lau’s selfie adventure, he turns the camera around several times and offers vertigo-inducing view of the city below him. After he lets you freeze from looking at it, he lowers the lens and turns his attention to a mobile phone.
The much-used term ‘selfie’ comes from Australia online forum’s post from 2002. In the last 18 months, the term has taken over the world of social media, so much that the Oxford Dictionaries chose it for the 2013 Word of the Year.
