Unsuspecting Jogger Gets Slammed In The Head By An Angry Owl
If you are a jogger or just an average outdoorsy person living in the Salem, Oregon area, keep your eyes open and be careful, because there is an angry owl out there and it is not afraid to initiate contact.
Ron Jaecks from Salem was just minding his own business, jogging as he usually does in Bush’s Pasture Park, when something smashed him right on the head. The blow was so hard and surprising that it took several moments for Jaecks to figure out what was going on – first he thought he was having a stroke or something, then he thought he was being robbed or was struck by lighting.
When the second blow came, he saw that it was something large and winged, quite like a bat, only way bigger. It was then that he realized it was actually a very big owl who, for some reason, was not happy to see Ron jogging around his neighborhood.
The unfortunate jogger notified the authorities who were, of course, unable to apprehend the assailant. The matter was puzzling for everyone so they consulted some experts.
As Professor David Craig of Willamette University told a local newspaper, the reason for the owl assault may be a territorial issue – a turf thing, if you like. The owls are nesting in January and this is when they, like all good moms, become very protective of their little ones and their home. The owl that attacked poor Ron Jaecks probably felt threatened by his jogging and took action.
