Students Fails Math Exam Twice, Tattoos Equation Formula On His Bum
After flunking his AS level qualification, a 19-year-old student promised his friends he would tattoo an equation formula if he failed to get at least a B on his math exam. Since he is definitely a man of his word, he tattooed the troublesome quadratic equation on his bum.
Rory is now studying psychology and criminology at the University of the West of England in Bristol and he told The Tab student newspaper about his motives for getting a tattoo.
“After two years of sitting Maths AS, I had only obtained a U and a D. I wanted a lot better, so I decided to re-sit for a third year. This meant I was 19 in a class with 16 year olds. I knew I was capable of a B or above, and I was getting abuse from my friends about failing it so many times, so I said it to motivate myself to do it. I was renowned for not doing well in the exam, so I wanted to change that.”
Although he forgot about the bet, his friends definitely didn’t.
“Strangely enough, the only thing that went through my mind was how funny the situation was. Even when at the tattoo parlor, I never thought of backing out!”
Rory, who admitted that his parents don’t know about his tattoo, said the tattoo artist was glad to be doing a tattoo with such an interesting story.
“He said this was the first time he’d been asked to do a totally unique tattoo for quite a while. Apparently he tells his wife funny stories from work each day, and this was up there with the best of them. He told me I was brave, apparently getting it done on your bottom is a really notoriously painful place; I chose it because it was quite hidden. Then he rammed on about how he had made a grown man cry. It was painful, extremely painful, it was my first tattoo too so I had no idea what to expect.”
