Man Fakes Kidnapping So He Could Party Without Girlfriend
A British man faked his own kidnapping so he could stay out partying without his girlfriend. He claimed he had been kidnapped and was being held ransom over a debt.
Naturally, the moment he contacted his girlfriend, the unfortunate woman went to the police.
Officers spent seven hours searching for the man from Bolton, in northwest England.
According to the BBC, the police checked closed-circuit TV footage taken close to his home and discovered that the man was actually at a house party!
“Considerable resources and time went into finding this man, who it transpires made the entire thing up so he could stay out and party,” Det. Insp. Jo Clawson for the Greater Manchester Police told Sky News.
“This is without doubt one of the most foolish and irresponsible incidents I have been involved in.”
The man’s friend was initially arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, but was soon released.
Interestingly enough, this is not the first time someone tries to fake a kidnapping in order to go out and party.
In 2013, a Texas man was charged with making a false statement after he told his wife he had been kidnapped so that he could go out drinking with his friends.
He said he was too afraid of his wife to tell her the truth.
“We have people file false reports all the time, and we put them in jail for it,” Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe Treviño told The Monitor at the time. “But I’ve never had someone do it just to get out of the house.”
