Horizontal Elevators Of The Future
Elevators were invented about 160 years ago, so it makes sense that someone is trying to give a bit of a boost to the old technology.
Innovations company ThyssenKrupp has introduced a new transportation system titled the Multi Elevator.
The idea is that old elevator technology takes up too much space and is confined to only one elevator in a shaft, which is not very efficient for rapidly expanding cities.
As an alternative to current systems, several cabins in the same shaft of the “Multivator” will move both vertically and horizontally, allowing buildings to adopt different heights and shapes.
The company plans to use linear motor technology to transform conventional elevator cabins into “vertical metro systems” within buildings.
The first Multi Elevator unit is expected to be tested by 2016.
