A 33 year old firefighter and Londoner, Ross McLaren, is one of the heroes of the year so far, as he kept his composure and helped a woman in labor give birth to her baby. To make matters even more incredible, he did it all by recalling the birth-giving techniques he watched in a TV series with his wife!

Ross was called to his duty, along with the rest of his crew, after a huge fire broke out in a hotel in north London on Wednesday morning. The blaze was so strong, that nearby flats also caught fire. However, what would soon ensue would completely shift the focus to another kind of drama.

Ewelina Zimnicki and her husband Jaroslaw were on their way to the hospital after pregnant Ewelina felt the contractions at their home. After rushing into the car, they soon found themselves stuck in a traffic because of the same fire that Ross was working on to extinguish. They broke through the cordon made by police on the scene of fire and asked for assistance.

As Ross McLarens describes it, “The husband was driving and was in a bit of a panic. I could see that the lady in the back seat was in the middle of giving birth and when I looked I could see the baby’s head.”

But then, remarkable thing happened. Ross remembered that his wife is an avid fan of the TV series One Born Every Minute, that he himself has watched with her numerous times. During watching, he actually memorized all the important techniques of birth-giving that midwives are taught.

Without a hint of hesitation, Ross rushed to help the panicked Zimnickis and applied his unlikely knowledge. He gave Ewelina the oxygen, while his colleauge, Richard Hall, helped him. He then proceeded to tell Ewelina to push and once the baby was out, her rubbed him in order for circulation to starts.

After successfully giving birth to her son, Antoni, Ewelina was transferred to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Antoni is a healthy baby who will one day learn all about his amazing birth.
After doing the unthinkable, Ross kept his cool and was able to return to his colleagues who were fighting a terrible blaze. The blaze did some significant damage to the hotel, but in the end the firefighting crew managed to put it under control and, eventually, stop it completely. And on top of all that, they were all witnesses to one heroic deed of their fellow firefighter who brought another life to this planet, under the most difficult of circumstances.
