Hello Kitty Is NOT A Cat…Or Is She?
If you have thought for your entire life that Hello Kitty was a cat, you have apparently been under the wrong impression. Despite having a name that refers to a young feline, Hello Kitty is not a cat.
During the preparations for a Hello Kitty exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum in LA, Hello Kitty owners Sanrio told University of Hawaii Anthropologist Christine R. Yano that the character is actually a girl.
Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it’s called Charmmy Kitty
Further, Hello Kitty is British and she lives outside London with her parents George and Mary White. She also has a twin sister Mimmy and loving grandparents.
Finally, Hello Kitty is a Scorpio and loves apple pie.
When the popular character was designed, Japan was crazy about everything British.
They loved the idea of Britain … So the biography was created exactly for the tastes of that time.
If all of this hasn’t confused you, wait till you read what the rep for Sanrio had to say.
It’s going too far to say that Hello Kitty is not a cat. Hello Kitty is a personification of a cat.
To sum it up, Hello Kitty is not a cat, or maybe she is.
