Enormous Pot-Bellied Canadian Pig Chases Burglars From Owner’s Home
Who needs a watchdog when you got pigs? Canadian pigs, to be precise. And in some cases, pigs can even be better guardians than dogs – there is the surprise factor, since no burglar expects to find a huge, scary pig inside the house.
Mike Maughan and Liane Scholz from Derby are immensely grateful to their pet pig Ludwig, a Canadian pig they brought over from Canada when they moved to the UK.
It was New Year’s and the owners of the house were sound asleep, when they were awakened by terrible noise downstairs. They came down and found that it was Ludwig making the noises and that the front door was open. Since the room was still quite warm, they figured that the attempted burglary probably happened shortly before that.
The owners say Ludwig has quite a scary voice, especially when he is upset. He is a huge animal and, in the dark, it’s easy to mistake his growl for that of an oversized Rottweiler. No wonder the burglars fled in horror, without even stealing anything. There were valuable things lying around in plain sight but they must’ve been so scared they forgot all about their criminal intent.
Mike and Liane are Canadian expats and Ludwig is actually the first pot-bellied big ever to be transported as a pet. In fact, the couple basically had to lobby the Canadian government for months to allow them to take their beloved pig with them.
And good thing they did – without Ludwig, the thieves would’ve robbed Mike and Liane of all their valuables.
