Barber Shop Offers Benjamin Button Haircuts For Misbehaving Children
A barber from Snellville, Georgia now offers a bad kid special in the form of a grown man haircut, which he quite adequately calls “The Benjamin Button.” The hairdo in question is basically hair cut to resemble old people, which basically means male pattern baldness.
Russell Frederick, who works at the A-1 Kutz barber shop, first came to this idea when one of his three kids started misbehaving and having poor grades in school. He thought, if the kid is going to act all grown up and make trouble, why not give him an old man haircut too? According to Fredercik, the parenting method gave excellent results – the kid started behaving and his grades improved drastically.
Now he wants to give other parents the possibility to manage their children’s bad behavior through haircuts. He says that looking ridiculous with an old man haircut makes children think twice before getting into mischief again.
This unusual educational method did not meet the approval of education and parenting experts. Alfie Kohn, author of the book “Unconditional Parenting: Moving From Rewards and Punishments to Love and Reason” said that humiliating the child will get you nowhere, adding that it may actually lead to a cycle of bad behavior and may even cause some long-term damage, especially for the child’s self-esteem.
As for the haircut, it does look ridiculous and humiliating. No kid in the world that would be happy to look like an old, bald geezer. Unless, of course, the Benjamin Button ‘do somehow becomes hip, in which case Frederick will have to find another method to manage his children.
