17 Creepiest Abandoned Places
2. Danvers State Hospital
Danvers State Hospital, also known as The Danvers Lynatic Asylum was a psychiatric hospital in Danvers, Massachusets.
The hospital was opened in 1878 and it is rumoured to have been the place where pre-frontal lobotomy was conceived.
There were several buildings on the site and they were all connected by a labyrinth of underground tunnels.
During the 1920s, there were controversial reports that the staff of the hospital used straitjackets, lobotomies, drugs and inhumane shock terapies in order to keep the over-crowded asylum under control.
Bu 1985, the majority of the buildings were abandoned and the entire campus was closed in 1992.
In 2006, the Danver State Hospital was demolished and apartments were put in the Asylum’s place. However, in 2007, four of the apartment complex buildings and four construction trailers went up in flames. No one knows the cause of the mysterious fire.
